Mendoza impressed in his Raiders debut - 10 of 16, 97 yards and a touchdown - and looked composed enough to accelerate the inevitable conversation about when exactly Kirk Cousins slides to the bench. On the other end of the spectrum, Tua Tagovailoa's debut in Atlanta was rough - 22 yards on eight plays across two drives, including a fumbled snap. Small sample. But still underwhelming. And Anthony Richardson played for the Colts without doing anything to help his trade request - seven points on six drives, a fumble, and a box score that was significantly more flattering than the actual performance. Nobody's calling Indy (yet). 🏈

On the college front, the season hasn't even started and Lane Kiffin’s LSU Tigers are already making headlines. Jayden Daniels, former LSU standout and Heisman Trophy winner, sent a cease-and-desist to LSU revoking his NIL rights - all because the school gave his old No. 5 to sophomore DJ Pickett, who had the number written into his return contract. Lane Kiffin, presiding over this tire fire in Year 1, said he had no choice but to honor the contract. Daniels broke his silence Friday saying his "sole focus is on Commanders football", which would have been a reasonable position before the attorney letters started flying. The NIL era, folks. 🙄

Meanwhile Texas leads ESPN's preseason All-America team with five selections, Arch Manning is generating real Heisman buzz, Ohio State returns a loaded roster with national title expectations, and Week 0 kicks off in Dublin - yes, Dublin 🍀 - with North Carolina and TCU in two weeks. The CFP race is wide open and the lines are already worth your attention. 🏈
